James H. DeVotie

The DeVotie Heritage Society memorializes Samford's indebtedness to one of our founding fathers, James H. DeVotie. Similarly, the University is indebted to those who are members of this Society. The purpose of the DeVotie Heritage Society is to recognize and thank the individuals who make Samford part of their estate plans. Donors who have planned an estate gift (“planned gift”) qualify for membership in the DeVotie Heritage Society.

How to Join

An estate or planned gift may be made by:

a bequest provision in your Will or revocable trust;
a gift or assignment of qualified retirement plan assets, such as an IRA, 401(k) or 403(b);
a life-income gift that names Samford as a remainder beneficiary, such as a charitable remainder trust, a charitable gift annuity, or a pooled income fund gift;
a charitable lead trust that provides income to Samford for a donor’s lifetime or a term of years;
a gift of life insurance;

If you have already included Samford in a bequest or other planned gift, we hope you will let us know by filling out the member profile form. Your willingness to be listed as a member of The DeVotie Heritage Society encourages others to follow your example. We acknowledge and respect those who wish to remain anonymous, but we urge you to let us know of your plans on a confidential basis in any case. It supports Samford’s planning for the future.
